As a child, I tried so hard to fit in with the people I thought were “cool”. I wanted to act like them and dress like them just so I could be with the “in” crowd. I was so desperate that I even learned how to break the rules to get what I wanted. I remember going to a department store when I was about 12 years old and ripping the “Levis” tag off a pair of jeans. I then went home and sewed it on a pair of cheap K-Mart jeans, so I could LOOK the part. I started a trend that day. Even though I probably looked fairly pathetic with my patchwork “Levis”, I learned how to fake it. When this memory came to me, God showed me how that one act began something in me that lasted a lifetime. I was striving for things I couldn’t afford and doing whatever it took to LOOK the part. I cut so many corners in my life trying to act a certain part that God never intended me to play. It’s amazing what we will do to try and fit in!
Tweet1 John 2:15-17 (NIV)
2:15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 2:16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 2:17The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
