Do you find yourself being invited into certain situations or making the assumption that your input is welcome? As I mentioned yesterday, I realize that I often force my way in and therefore the value that I bring is diminished because it was never welcome. It’s not about being right or wrong, it’s about timing. Are the people you want to help ready to be helped? I’ve seen this played out in business as well as my personal life. In business, it doesn’t matter how passionate I am about what I am selling and how it can help, if the client is not ready to receive and implement my advice, it is worthless! The same holds true for counseling. If you want to help someone in need (from a spiritual sense) and they are not ready to hear what you have to say, you can hurt the situation as much as you can help it. Don’t get me wrong, I believe we are called to share God’s truth in all circumstances, but all we need to do is plant the seed, not tend the garden!
TweetMatthew 13:31-32 (NIV)
13:31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 13:32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”
