I am still processing all that I experienced in Nicaragua last week. I started the week by being asked to play the drums in the praise band at the worship service on Sunday (I thought it was a joke). I haven’t touched a pair of drum sticks for over two years and obviously everything they did was in a different language. Somehow, it all came together anyway and I was truly blessed to be part of God’s plan (even though I was very nervous). The funny thing was that I had just explained to another team member, the night before, that when I play the drums, I truly worship at a higher level. The regular drummer got stuck in another city and was so frustrated because he kept running up against obstacles while trying to get to church. I was later able to explain to him that it was all part of God’s plan in order to bless me and let me play the drums. We had a great laugh about that perspective. Even though Sunday was a huge blessing, as the week progressed, the work became very intense and by Wednesday, I hit a wall. I was wondering why I had gone on the trip. When was God going to show up? As I discussed earlier this week, He showed up in a big way on Thursday. The kids of Caminante taught me more about hope and God’s love than 100 sermons. God had been preparing my heart all week to receive what I received on Thursday and it all started with worship.
