How We Hear

As I hunger to understand God’s direction for my life, I need to learn to listen to the Holy Spirit by being quiet, but I also need to be more intentional about reading God’s Word.  The voice of God’s is clearly defined in His Word, but most of us don’t want to take the time to dedicate to knowing Him through the Bible.  In our culture dominated by immediacy, we want to hear His voice TODAY.  I know that I have not dedicated enough time to reading the Bible and just started spending more time meditating on His Word in the last few weeks.  In the past, I would spend time in the Bible trying to figure out an answer to a specific circumstance, but I wouldn’t simply read and meditate to let Him speak to me the way He wanted to.  Like I do in so many other areas of my life, I was even trying to control how God speaks to me through His Word by only turning to it to answer a question that I had.  Start reading the Bible with the intention of hearing God speak through it, not simply to answer a specific question you may have!

Proverbs 30:5 (NIV)
30:5 “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
