I’m not sure if I have discussed this before this week, but my addiction for my entire life has been “busyness”. The great thing is that Jesus came to forgive us all our sins, including the sin of busyness. For me, this sin had been a form of control. I’ve always wanted to make sure that I was busy in order to control my life and not to leave any down time for too much self-reflection. Being alone with yourself and God for any extended period of time can be a frightening thing, especially when YOU don’t KNOW what the outcome might look like. God may actually do something in your life that is against what YOU have already planned. I’m just now starting to realize that NOT always having a plan and NOT always trying to be in control is a GOOD thing. Holding things loosely gives God the ability to shape your life minute-by-minute and day-by-day. He’s going to do it anyway; It’s just a matter of how painful YOU might make the process, by hanging on to what YOU want too tightly. If God wants to steer you in a new and different direction…Guess what…You’re going whether you want to or not!
TweetEphesians 5:15-17 (NIV)
5:15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 5:16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 5:17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
